Factory options varied by model and year. Links are starting points, not a fitment guarantee — we confirm against your VIN and serial numbers.

01Engine families found in Mack trucks

Modern Mack highway and vocational trucks commonly run Mack MP7, MP8 or MP10 engines. Older Macks used earlier Mack engine families. Your VIN and engine tag confirm which engine your truck was built with.

02Transmissions

Many newer Macks use the mDRIVE automated manual, with mDRIVE HD versions for vocational work. Macks have also been built with Eaton Fuller manual transmissions and Mack's own manual transmissions, and some vocational models use Allison automatics.

03Electronics and programming

Mack engines and the mDRIVE are integrated with the truck's electronic control units. A replacement unit often needs programming with Mack dealer tools to communicate with the rest of the truck. Matching serial numbers to your VIN helps keep that straightforward.

04Aftertreatment, harness and cooling

MP-series engines from different emissions periods can use different aftertreatment parts, sensors and harnesses. Vocational Macks may also have PTO and cooling differences. Send the engine serial and tell us how the truck is used.

05What to have ready

Before you call, gather:

  • Full VIN
  • Engine model and serial number
  • Transmission label or tag details if needed
  • Truck model and year
  • Whether the truck uses a PTO

FAQ

Mack engine & transmission questions

Which engine does my Mack have?

Newer Macks commonly have an MP7, MP8 or MP10. Check the engine tag or the build data tied to your VIN to be sure.

Does a replacement MP8 need programming?

Usually some programming is needed so the engine communicates with the truck's other control units. A Mack dealer or equipped shop can confirm.

Can you find an mDRIVE for my Anthem or Granite?

Yes. Send the transmission label details and VIN and we search supplier sources for a matching unit.

Are Mack and Volvo engines interchangeable?

They are related through the Volvo Group, but they are not simple drop-in replacements for each other. We search for the engine that matches your truck.

Are you affiliated with Mack?

No. We are an independent sourcing company. We search supplier sources nationwide and confirm availability and freight on your quote.
