Identification
How to identify your MP7
Read us the engine serial number from the Mack engine identification label; it is also stored in the ECU and readable with Mack Premium Tech Tool.
For refuse and vocational trucks, also tell us the body type and PTO setup. Those details often decide which MP7 build fits without swapping accessories.
- Engine serial number
- Truck VIN, year and model
- Body type (refuse, dump, mixer, tractor) and PTO setup
- Horsepower rating
01MP7 vs MP8
The MP7 is the 11-liter and the MP8 the 13-liter Mack engine. They share design approach but have different blocks and rotating assemblies. An MP8 in an MP7 truck is a repower that brings cooling, mounting and calibration changes.
02MP7 vs Volvo D11
The MP7 and the Volvo D11 share the same Volvo Group 11-liter base engine, but Mack-specific calibration, ratings, accessories and truck integration differ. A D11 is not plug-and-play in a Mack.
03Refuse and vocational duty
Many MP7 engines lived in refuse trucks, especially the TerraPro low-cab-forward, where stop-and-go running, long idle periods and PTO use are the norm. Those duty cycles put wear on the engine that mileage does not show. Ask for engine hours, idle time and the donor truck's application.
TerraPro installations also differ from conventional Granite installations in cooling and accessory layout. Match the cab style of the donor truck to yours when possible.

FAQ
Mack MP7 questions
Is the Mack MP7 the same as the Volvo D11?
They share the same base engine, but calibration, ratings, accessories and truck integration differ. We match the Mack-specific build.
Will an MP7 from a TerraPro fit my Granite?
Possibly, but cooling and accessory layouts differ between the two cab styles. We match by serial number, VIN and application.
Where is the MP7 serial number?
On the Mack engine identification label, and stored in the ECU.
Does the MP7 use DEF?
2010-and-later MP7 engines use SCR with DEF. 2007-2009 engines use a DPF without DEF.
Why do engine hours matter on a refuse MP7?
Refuse trucks idle and run PTOs for long periods, so hours can reveal wear that low mileage hides.
