Factory options varied by model and year. Links are starting points, not a fitment guarantee — we confirm against your VIN and serial numbers.

01Engines in the Cascadia

Most Cascadias are built with Detroit engines, typically the DD13, DD15 or DD16, and some earlier trucks ran the Detroit Series 60. Cummins engines such as the ISX15 and X15 were also offered in many Cascadias. Which engine your truck has depends on the year and spec, not just the model name.

02Cascadia generations

Freightliner introduced a redesigned Cascadia in the late 2010s. Earlier and later generations differ in cab, electrical architecture and powertrain integration. A unit from one generation is not automatically a fit for the other, so we use your VIN to confirm which one you have.

03Transmissions in the Cascadia

Many newer Cascadias have the Detroit DT12 automated manual. Others run Eaton Fuller manual transmissions or Eaton automated manuals. Your transmission ID tag and build data confirm which one you need.

04Aftertreatment, ECM, harness and cooling

Cascadia engines are tightly integrated with the truck's aftertreatment system, engine ECM and vehicle electronics. An engine from a different emissions year or family can require different aftertreatment parts, harnesses or software. Cooling package and charge air plumbing can also differ, so the engine serial number matters as much as the model name.

05What to have ready

To start a Cascadia search, have:

  • Full VIN
  • Engine model and serial number
  • Transmission model, serial and part number if needed
  • Model year and approximate mileage of the failed unit
  • What you need: complete engine, long block, transmission or components

FAQ

Freightliner Cascadia engine & transmission questions

Which engine does my Cascadia have?

Most have Detroit engines, but some have Cummins. Check the engine ID tag or the build data tied to your VIN.

Will an engine from an older Cascadia fit a newer one?

Not reliably. Emissions year, electronics and the truck's generation all matter. We match by VIN and engine serial rather than by model name alone.

Can I replace a DT12 with a manual transmission in a Cascadia?

That is a conversion involving pedals, controls, wiring and software. Most owners replace a DT12 with a DT12, and that is what we search for unless you ask otherwise.

Do I need to reprogram anything after a swap?

Often. A replacement engine or automated transmission may need parameters or software matched to the truck. Your shop or dealer can confirm.

How do I get a quote for a Cascadia engine?

Call or submit the form with your VIN and engine serial. We search supplier sources nationwide and confirm availability and freight on your quote.
