01Anthem launch and the 2025 redesign

Mack revealed the Anthem highway tractor in September 2017. In June 2025 Mack announced a new Anthem with a completely new design, with production scheduled to begin in January 2026.

02Engines: MP8, MP7 and the MP13 name

At launch the Anthem's standard engine was the 13-liter Mack MP8, with ratings up to 505 hp and 1,860 lb-ft, and the 11-liter MP7 was optional at up to 425 hp and 1,560 lb-ft. A turbo-compound MP8 was offered only with Mack's Super Econodyne package.

With the 2025 Anthem, Mack began calling its 13-liter engine the MP13, describing it as the newly named MP8, and offers an MP13 HE version. Mack's current Anthem page lists the MP13 at 415 to 515 hp and the MP13 HE at 415 to 505 hp. In May 2026 Mack said it would sunset the 11-liter MP7.

Because of the rename, the label on a newer Anthem engine may say MP13 rather than MP8. The engine serial number and emissions year matter more than the name when matching a replacement.

03mDRIVE and mDRIVE HD

The 12-speed mDRIVE automated manual was standard on all Anthem models at launch. Mack currently lists the mDRIVE in 12-, 13- and 14-speed versions and the mDRIVE HD, with a 13-speed creeper version and multi-speed reverse available.

The mDRIVE works with the engine and truck electronics, so a replacement unit often needs programming with Mack dealer tools. Send the transmission label so we search for the same version, including whether it has creeper or reverse gears.

04Matching an engine to your Anthem

An MP8 from a 2018 Anthem and an MP13 from a 2026 Anthem are different emissions generations, and turbo-compound and HE versions differ from standard engines. Aftertreatment, sensors, harness and software can all change. Mack has also announced a next-generation MP13 for the 2027 EPA rules, so newer engines will differ again.

05What to have ready

To start an Anthem search, have:

  • Full VIN
  • Engine model and serial number (MP7, MP8, MP13 or MP13 HE)
  • mDRIVE or mDRIVE HD label details
  • Model year and approximate mileage of the failed unit
  • Whether you need a complete engine, long block or transmission only

FAQ

Mack Anthem engine & transmission questions

Is the Mack MP13 the same as the MP8?

Mack describes the MP13 in the 2025 Anthem as the newly named MP8 13-liter engine. Emissions year and configuration still differ between trucks, so we match by engine serial number.

Which engine is in my Anthem?

The 13-liter MP8, now named MP13, has been the standard Anthem engine. Some earlier trucks were built with the 11-liter MP7. Check the engine label or the build data tied to your VIN.

Does every Anthem have an mDRIVE?

The 12-speed mDRIVE was standard on all Anthem models at launch, and mDRIVE HD versions are also offered. Check the transmission label to see which version you have.

Is the mDRIVE the same as a Volvo I-Shift?

They are related through the Volvo Group, but controls, software and parts can differ. We search for the exact unit your Anthem uses.

Are you a Mack dealer?

No. We are an independent sourcing company. We search supplier sources nationwide and confirm availability and freight on your quote.
