Identification
How to identify your ISB 6.7
Read us the ESN and CPL from the Cummins dataplate on the engine. On B-series engines the dataplate is typically on the front gear housing or rocker cover; the ESN is also stored in the ECM.
Confirm that you have a commercial ISB 6.7 and not a pickup engine. The commercial engine and the pickup version share displacement but differ in ECM, harness, accessories, turbo and calibration.
- ESN and CPL from the dataplate
- Vehicle type: truck, school bus, transit, RV or equipment
- Year, make, model and VIN
- Whether the vehicle has a DEF tank (2010-or-later)
01Commercial ISB 6.7 vs pickup 6.7
This is the most common mismatch on 6.7 Cummins requests. A pickup 6.7 and a commercial ISB 6.7 are related, but the pickup engine uses its own ECM, wiring, accessory drive, turbo and emissions calibration. A pickup engine is not a direct replacement for an ISB 6.7 in a medium-duty truck or bus, and the reverse is also true.
We search for commercial ISB 6.7 engines unless you tell us otherwise, and we match by CPL so the build lines up with your chassis.
022007-2009 vs 2010-and-later
The 2007 ISB 6.7 replaced the 5.9-liter ISB and added a DPF. The 2010 version added SCR with DEF. Harness, ECM and aftertreatment changed between the two, so match the emissions year of your vehicle.
03Bus and RV builds
ISB 6.7 engines are very common in school buses and rear-engine RVs, and those builds can differ in accessory layout, cooling plumbing, oil pan and flywheel housing. An RV engine may carry a different rating than a truck engine. Matching CPL or the same vehicle family saves rework.

FAQ
Cummins ISB 6.7 questions
Can I use a pickup 6.7 Cummins in my medium-duty truck?
Not as a direct swap. The pickup and commercial engines differ in ECM, wiring, accessories and calibration. We look for commercial ISB 6.7 engines matched by CPL.
What is the difference between ISB 6.7 and B6.7?
B6.7 is the later Cummins name for the same engine family. The ESN and CPL tell us which build and emissions year you have.
Does the ISB 6.7 use DEF?
2010-and-later ISB 6.7 engines use SCR with DEF. 2007-2009 engines use a DPF but no DEF.
My ISB 6.7 is in a school bus. Will a truck engine work?
It may, but bus builds often differ in accessories, plumbing and housings. Give us the bus model and CPL so the search starts with a matching build.
Where is the ISB 6.7 dataplate?
Usually on the front gear housing or rocker cover. If it is missing, a shop can read the ESN from the ECM.
