Identification tag
How to identify your 13-speed
The ID tag is riveted to the transmission case and shows the model, serial number and BOM or part number. A model ending in 13, such as RTLO-16913A, indicates a 13-speed.
If the tag is unreadable, the shift knob is a clue: a 13-speed knob has both a range selector and a splitter button. The truck VIN and build sheet can confirm the original model.
01How a 13-speed shifts
Low range works like a standard range-shift box. Once in high range, the splitter divides each gear into a direct and an overdrive step, so the driver gets more, closer ratios where they matter for heavy loads.
02Ratios and rear axle matching
13-speeds come with different ratio sets depending on model and BOM. Matching the tag keeps your engine RPM and axle ratio working together the way the truck was spec'd.
03Input shaft, clutch, air system and PTO
Check input shaft spline size and length against your clutch. The splitter and range are air-operated, so confirm the shift knob and air fittings are compatible. If you run a PTO, note the opening and PTO model.
04Core and exchange
Core charges or exchange terms may apply depending on the supplier. If they do, they are confirmed on your quote before you commit, along with availability and freight.
Configuration
What we'll ask to match your unit
- What model, serial number and BOM are on the ID tag?
- What engine and torque rating is it behind?
- What is the truck year, make, model and VIN?
- What rear axle ratio does the truck run?
- Does the truck use a PTO?
- Do you need the shift knob, clutch or shift tower too?
FAQ
Eaton Fuller 13-Speed questions
What is the difference between a 13-speed and an 18-speed?
A 13-speed splits only in high range. An 18-speed splits in both low and high range, giving even more steps for very heavy work.
Can a 10-speed replace my 13-speed?
Mechanically it is sometimes possible, but you lose the splitter steps you may rely on for heavy loads. We search for a 13-speed unless you tell us otherwise.
Is every RTLO-16913A the same?
Not necessarily. Units with the same model can have different BOMs, which can change input shaft and other details. Send the full tag.
Do you sell rebuilt or new transmissions?
We source used units through supplier networks. Condition details for any unit we find are confirmed on your quote.
What should I have ready when I call?
The tag photo or numbers, the truck VIN, engine model and whether you use a PTO. That lets us start searching right away.
